Logic Pro X Tutorial: Score to Picture (Quick Tip Series)

Score to Picture in Logic Pro X

If you’re scoring to picture then working with a movie file with its original audio in your Logic session is an absolute essential for great workflow and attaining quality results.

This will not only help you with the composition process but also with the overall mixdown of the project.

If there’s a soundtrack on the film you’re replacing, it can also help to have this ‘temp’ track in your project to refer to, even if it’s muted most of the time. So when you Import a movie, tick the box to import the associated audio file by default too.

Let’s walk through how to import a video file into Logic Pro X Session step by step:

  • Choose File > Movie > Open Movie (or use the corresponding key command, default assignment: Option-Command-O).
  • Open the Movie pop-up menu in the global Movie track header, then choose Open Movie.
  • Click any position on the Video track with the Pencil tool.
  • Click the Media button in the control bar, then click the Movies button and choose the movie file.

I have personally used this technique a number of times throughout the past few years, It not only has increased my workflow but has also eradicated a lot of compositional stresses.

Let me know in the comments if this tip has improved the way you work to picture.
